Ralf’s Pretzel Bakery Bellingham

There is one vendor NEVER bypassed at the Bellingham Farmer’s Market: it’s  Ralf’s Bavarian Pretzels. How can you choose? -salami/swiss/cream cheese on a pretzel bun, a Nutella sandwich stick, a cheese stick and pretzels big and small. My daughter discovered Nutella at the store and pleaded I buy some (of course I’ve known about Nutella all my life – I was just trying to keep it out of the house).

For the past few years I wished they had a storefront open during the week I could go to with my children. This month my wish came true! Ralf’s Pretzel Bakery is open in the Market Depot and looks great.

I wonder if they’ll get a liquor license so I could have some beer with my pretzel…

QQ Li’s Chinese Cuisine Bellingham

Behind REI in the Starvin’ Sam’s strip is a new wonder: QQ Li’s Chinese Cuisine. I love saying it: QQ Li’s Chinese Cuisine. ok

As you ply your way through the students, you too will have a happy face after you see all the choices and prices! The space is bright airy and clean with a few tables and a very long counter filled with food. I just stood there with my mouth open trying to figure out what I wanted – it was so hard to narrow it down. I ordered a 3 item combo with fried rice: chicken with broccoli, sesame chicken, peppered chicken. Cluck.

I gave the chicken and broccoli to Wendy and she said Kevin ate it all. I shared the rest with my family – we thought it was great.

The menu has appetizers, many soup choices and all the standard Chinese foods you would expect. There are combos and family meals; chef specials and BBQ plates.

QQ Li has been on vendor’s row at WWU (listen’s to student input). She’s the owner’s daughter at Hawaiian BBQ & Noodle House (good training grounds). I think it’s a success.

Mykonos Greek Restaurant

Dimitri Kaplaneris is a wonderful car salesman at Dewey Griffin here in Bellingham. He has been very patiently helping me sort through Subarus. He is originally from Athens and has a favorite restaurant in Bellingham: Mykonos Greek Restaurant. He should know good Greek food, no? I trust his opinion. I’m going for taste test.

Who should I take with me? If I tell you when I’m going to be there, will you join me?

Rhodes Cafe Bellingham (not Roads Cafe!)

Rhodes Cafe is easy to miss. It is cornered between Radio Shack and Cost Cutter. Perhaps this is by design. It is a great place to eat if you’re a regular. If you’re not, the service is compulsory and polite.

The food is very good with American and Greek choices; breakfast and lunch is served. If you want REAL milk for your coffee, your server may be piqued by your request.

My best experiences have been breakfast with one of my kids before school with an older server. Otherwise, weekends with my family (5) gets a cramped table (the large one always seems to be reserved) and a younger server with a tolerant attitude.

Try it, you might like it.  1046 Lakeway Dr  Bellingham WA (360) 714-9743

Book Fare

Food and view. Sometimes it’s all I need. Heather’s desserts, too. Book Fare is the place to get them.

Wendy and I went to lunch (surprise). She ordered a grilled Greek sandwich. She raved and raved, the feta was so good. Our server, Meagan, was Excellent. She was looking out for my well being. Example: I wanted soup and sandwich. She explained the soup was just put on the burners; it would be a while before it was hot enough to serve. It’s been a long time since I had a server this attentive (this was the shortfall at Boundary Bay Brewery). I would return for this reason alone.

Well, I opted to have the veggie cheddar sandwich with salad and crunched and munched my taste buds to happiness. I drank a huge glass mug of Rooibus tea – very warming (Wendy drank coffee and was zippy in no time). When it came to dessert, I really couldn’t decide! And I was stuffed from my sandwich and salad.

Plus, I already know how Heather’s apple pie tastes (have one in the fridge at home). Great!
