Colophon Cafe & Bakery

My good friend and I went to lunch Saturday at the Colophon Cafe. It’s tough to pick a restaurant in Fairhaven; there are too many to choose from. So we always try someplace new.

Colophon Cafe was busy with very friendly servers. The sandwiches were huge – reminded me of Star Deli in Manhattan, NY (to die for chopped liver). Our meal was ok and our dessert (desserts are huge) was delicious and fresh. Try it, you’ll like it.

PS I have taken my kids to Colophon for ice cream and they say it’s the BEST ice cream in B’ham (and they’re connoisseurs).

El Rinconcito in Bellingham, WA

A Mexican restaurant by any other name would not be so cozy. My good friend down the block grew up in Bellingham. She said they always saved Friday nights for El Rinconcito. Now I know why.

Fresh chips, delicious salsa and a portion to feed a few…and the best part was nobody asked us how our meal was. They would discreetly walk by, but not disturb us.

Let me explain. My partner and I were out to lunch again during the kids Wednesday art class. We have 3 children. 12, 10, 5. Let’s just say meals as a family are not quiet and someone always needs something after we’ve sat down — you know the movie line from Christmas Story: “…my mother hasn’t had a hot meal in 14 years…”.

So, when I extoll the virtues of a restaurant that leaves me alone when I’m eating, you’ll understand.

Muy buena comida.

fiamma BURGER

Filed under: Bellingham Restaurants — Bellinghamster @ 10:35 pm

My partner and I had some business to discuss. Why had we not yet gone to the new burger joint downtown?! I love my meat! So while the 5 year old was in art class Wednesday, we hopped it on down to fiamma Burger.

Oh my. Oh my goodness. Perfect burger (with fried onions). Perfect onion rings. How they got MIL’s (mother-in-law) recipe we don’t know and we don’t care. She’s in NY and fiamma is here with us, so we can still have her onion rings. I love onions, can you tell? Manga fiamma burger.

Diamond Jim’s Grill

We were looking for a great place to eat Sunday brunch and chose Diamond Jim’s Grill. Everyone in the family had eaten there before. Everyone except me.

We knew we’d have to get there early or there would be a wait. The dining room is cozy and the food is fantastic. Eggs, bacon, sausage, pancakes, muffins, CORNED BEEF (my favorite) on and on and on we ate.

I think we had room in our bellies for a bowl of cereal later that day.

I remember a comedian who said: I don’t want to die old; I want to die full. Amen.
