Bagelry – Fresh Bagels in Bellingham

I met a gorgeous boy a long time ago. He had long wavy auburn hair, blue eyes and a come hither smile. He rolled bagels at the Bagel Nosh in Roslyn, NY. It was at the top of the hill where Northern Boulevard turns left to the viaduct and Roslyn road went right to town. It’s a Chinese restaurant now, but I’ll never forget my early bagel experiences.

The Bagelry brings them all back. They roll pinch rise boil and bake bagels to perfection. I do not lie. If your bagel needs a topping try the chopped chicken liver. It ‘s to die for.

Note: The Bagelry is featured on our Bellingham Bagels page.

Skylark’s Hidden Cafe

I enjoy writing – positive, not negative. However, Skylark’s Hidden Cafe should remain hidden. At least if you like to dine with people under the legal drinking age. I love to go out to eat and since I have three children now, I truly enjoy including them. I know I am a minority in this respect.

Skylark’s advertises itself as kid friendly. It is not. It has a kid’s menu, but only if you have kids who eat PBJ or tunafish sandwiches 9no chicken strips, nuggets,  etc). It has a cramped kid’s dining room – SURPRISE – way in the back of the restaurant next to the kitchen, bathroom and server station (which is noisily re-stocked with buckets of ice OFTEN). Our server was surly and inattentive and argumentative (especially about handling a bill error).

End of story.

Robeks in Sehome Village

I think a smoothie is like a healthy slurpee. It can be an energizing snack or a dessert.

At Robek’s I can get a high protein dairy free smoothie and feel satisfied. Or I can get their Outrageous Raspberry for a treat. Either way, I’m a happy camper.

When I’m looking for SOLID food their wraps are fresh and tasty. But that’s just an FYI.

On Rice, Bellingham Thai Restaurant

Tea was introduced to the West during the British exploration of the Orient. Teas, spices and silks were valuable commodities. I, too, value the quality of my tea. I have a favorite spot in Bellingham to share.

Today, Wendy and I went to On Rice in Barkley for lunch. Thai decor on the walls and the servers catering to a business clientele. We ordered 2 combos: Emperor’s Cashew and Garlic Delight. Emperor’s Cashew is chicken with cashews and vegetables (Wendy’s favorite). Garlic Delight is garlic with beef, Thai soy sauce, black pepper and cilantro served on a bed of steamed broccoli. It was way too salty for me. The Pad Thai noodles were delicious.

However, the best part of my meal was the tea. I would go to this restaurant regularly if just for the tea. There is a nice selection, all Thai. I drank the Haiku Herbal Tea. The tea was served in a french press ready for my plunge. Lemon balm, ginseng and herbs. It was fantastic.

A couple of months from now school will be back in session…no peanut gallery to attend to. I will be back.

Our Kitchen is Your Kitchen Bellingham

I like that phrase, don’t you? To me it means: come on in and we’ll share some eats! Yes, please.

My girlfriend and I have been waiting patiently for Our Kitchen is Your Kitchen to open. We have been duly rewarded. We tried the no bake cookies (and many others) – delicious. The tea and coffee is piping hot fresh, as it should be. And did I mention the chocolate pudding bread? Save me some, please.

They also have a baking studio I can make a mess in. They have the ingredients or I can bring my own. I think for my birthday I’m going to plan a girl’s night out party – everything chocolate. They’ll breaking down the door.
